The historic Flag House in Baltimore, MD. Residence of flag maker Mary Young Pickersgill. Birthplace of the Star-Spangled Banner Flag.

Instagram post 2193729915502097312_1150052258 December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy. While there is no mention of the attack on #PearlHarbor in the 1941 minutes of the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House, a year later, in December of 1942, the United States' involvement in WWII had started to affect the museum's operations. Oil rationing, bombing insurance, complaints of dirty and tattered American flags flying throughout Baltimore, and even Christmas tree shortage all appear in the minutes from 1942 as the museum adapted to wartime.
Swipe to read the Curator’s Report from December 1942.
