The Flag House and Star-Spangled Banner Museum is a wonderful new location for receptions, parties, meetings, special events and weddings.  Book a patriotic piece of history for your next special function!

Hours of Operation

The Flag House is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm.  We are closed on Sundays, Mondays and major holidays including New Years Day, Good Friday, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Spirit of America: The Paintings of Joyce HowellApril 2  - October 14
Exhibition included with Admission
This spring, the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House shares the exuberant, patriotic paintings of Joyce Howell. Originally inspired by the song America the Beautiful, Howell use bold, joyful color to depict scenes of seaside towns, holiday celebrations and regional vistas she has experienced on her travels. Each painting cleverly incorporates the field of stars and stripes of the American flag in the artist’s signature style.
 
Women at Work in the Early 19th Century
Second Saturdays, March 8, April 12, May 10, 2008, 10 AM – 3:30 PM
Each Saturday, the Flag House will explore the various roles of women in the 19th Century.  From Hearth Cooking to Apothecary or Flag Making to Quilting and Weaving, women were creative, in charge, and bold in the early days of Maryland (and now). Free with museum admission
 
Mapping Mary Pickersgill’s Baltimore: A Walking Tour
Saturdays, April 26 and May 17, 2008, 10:00 AM– 11:00 AM
Using early 19th century maps and recent research, discover the landscape and landmarks as Mary Pickersgill, maker of the Star-Spangled Banner, knew them in Jonestown, one of Baltimore’s oldest neighborhoods. Guided walking tour begins and concludes at The Star-Spangled Banner Flag House, located at 844 E. Pratt Street. Free for Flag House Members; $3.00 for non-members, Participants are free to take a complimentary tour of the Flag House following the walk.

The Flag House will host an Open House for Maryland residents interested in learning about the history of the American flag and the stories behind the Star-Spangled Banner Flag in particular.   Join us for this fun and educational day celebrating the flag of the United States of America.
 
Blues to Bluegrass: A Star-Spangled Banner Concert Series 
Thursdays, June 12, 26, July 3, 2007 6:00 – 8:00PM
Enjoy the summer breeze and the best in Americana music under the stars (and stripes) of the historic Flag House and Star-Spangled Banner Museum Thursday evenings.......A green oasis in the heart of Baltimore, the Flag House’s garden will be the setting for the Bluegrass tradition of Cuttin’ Grass, the Zydeco beat of Dexter Ardoin and the Creole Ramblers and the “Goodtime Blues with a Twist” of Charles “Big Daddy” Stallings to entertain visitors as they enjoy food, drink and tours of the historic Flag House. FREE

 

June 12Cuttin’ Grass kicks off the Star-Spangled Banner Concert Series as they “pick” out the traditions of Bluegrass with a somewhat contemporary sound.  Cuttin’ Grass, states the City Paper, takes “bluegrass seriously but not trapping its sound in time.”

 

June 26Dexter Ardoin and the Creole Ramblers perform joyous, heartfelt Creole music that combines the best of contemporary Cajun and Zydeco.  Join them as they stop at the Flag House before setting off on a European tour.

 

July 3 Charles “Big Daddy” Stallings is stirring up a “Blues Evolution” with his globally acclaimed “Good Time Blues with a Twist.” Kick off the 4th of July weekend with music sure to have you standing on your feet, celebrating your independence.

In this early learners program children ages 3-5 are invited along with their favorite adults to have fun with hands-on experiences that will help enhance their trip through early American history on how to build a house. This preschool series program is part of an early learners initiative focused on children, from six months to five years old.
